Amman, the capital of Jordan, is a fascinating city of contrasts – a unique blend of old and new, ideally situated on a hilly area between the desert and the fertile Jordan Valley.
A bustling city of 2 million people, sits atop seven hills. The people of Amman are multi-cultural, multi-denominational, well educated and extremely hospitable. They welcome visitors and take pride in showing them around their fascinating and vibrant city. It is a safe, friendly city for walking, with a busy commercial and administrative centre. While much of it has been built over the past 50 years, significant archaeological remains give testament to this ancient city’s place in history.

Government offices are open Sunday through Thursday from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. All businesses and most shops are closed on Fridays.

Shopping hours
Most Jordanians work five days a week, with Friday and Saturday off, but business and shopping hours are flexible. Some stores open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, and other stores may remain open all day, from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm. Most malls and supermarkets offer extended Friday shopping.
